Routines
After reading about routines as enabling and structuring school reform efforts, I thought a lot about routines as one type of institution. It seems like routines- ranging from how to talk about student work to how to use standardized test data to make decisions- require institutionalization efforts by actors. Schools are complicated organizations with many ideas, actors, and power structures hovering and competing for time and energy. Are new routines simplifying and streamlining or do they complicate by virtue of adding another layer?
